| HOW TO: DRAW HAIR So that your character will have hair
Tutorial Author: @Dako // Category: Art Paint Tool SAI, HUION H610PRO Tablet
|
Step 1 Draw a sketch base to start with. (It can be anything) - Name the layer "BASE"
| |
Step 2 This is completely optional, but if you want to- You can add some other details just so it won't be boring! Also do the following so you don't get lost; - Name the layer with the extra details on it "DECO" or something. - Add a folder & drag the two named "DECO" and "BASE" into it. - Add another layer outside of the folder & name it "hair".
| |
Step 3 Okay, so now, you're going to click to folder icon to close it, and change to opacity to something you're happy with. I personally go with about 50%. Optional; - Add another layer, drag it below everything, and name it "BG" And add a light grey to it.
| |
Step 4 Make another layer, drag it below the layer named "hair" And name it "ears" and start drawing a rough sketch of ears. (human ears) and turn the opacity down to 50%, or something you're okay with.
| |
Step 5 On the hair layer, make the sketch for the hairline. And again, turn down the layer opacity to 50%. Also you can darken the BG grey color, so that you can see the green better.
| |
Step 6 Make a new layer above the layer named "hair" and start drawing a curved line going left. You should start near the middle of the middle hairline. Don't connect it though.
| |
Step 7 To add the second line, start at the top of the previous line, but make it a little less curved than the first. Sort of follow the first line, as in the direction. And it's okay to not let the lines touch at the end. This is a sketch of the hair anyway.
| |
Step 8 When adding the other strands, to the left of the first two strands, you should just let your wrist/hand go with the flow! At top of the hair, add a litle dip so we know where the character parts their hair. You can add the little "leafs" to it also. I think it's kind of cute so... And you can lower the folders opacity to 20% if you want to see the hair a bit more. - Try to make both ends of the front hair (bangs in this case) looks the same (look at picture)
| |
Step 9 Make a new layer on top of every other layer & name it "Back Hair" and draw on that layer. I'm going for short hair, in this tutorial, so I made it shoulder length. But you can make it any length. I made the ends kind of curl towards my characters neck. And I was too lazy to redraw it on the other side so I copy & pasted. It's up to you if you want to do the same. | |
Step 10. I turned up the stabilizer to S-1, but that didn't work so I put it to S-6. I've added my lineart, cleaned up, and made a palette. I'm not going to make this tutorial about coloring now LOL if you want to know how to color hair- well that's a whole different tutorial! I only came here to try and teach you how to draw hair! I hope this helped. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to message me via PM! <3

| @Pantone SAI is not free. You have to buy it, I believe it costs $43.47 USD. And I spent about $76.99 for the tablet via Amazon. |
